Electrochemical part marking (also known as electrochemical etching, chemical etching, electrolytic etching and chemetch) is a permanent process for high-resolution part marking onto conductive metal surfaces. It is ideal for identification and traceability of certain metal components.

Advantages:

  • Can create surface marks (oxide), deeper marks (etch) or combinations of both
  • Good for thin-walled parts that might be deformed by dot peen or scribe systems, or parts that cannot have any raised surfaces
  • Inexpensive solution
  • Clear marks

Disadvantages

  • Can be a messy application using the electrolytes in a manual operation
